My paintings are about being in love with the physical process of painting itself. I believe recognition of such processes can calm what is anxious and describe the intricacies of healing and growing in a way that is universal and more powerful than words. I paint to physically feel the energy of making messes, cleaning them up and doing it all over again. I paint to enjoy the chaos and sit with it long enough to appreciate the impulsivity and understand that each element is essential. Being in tune with painting reminds me of what I hold true in life: mistakes and missteps are foundations for the future that must be appreciated, stagnancy is a choice, and we hold the power to transform any situation or perspective into something new. I paint to remember that the first step is just to move, without plan or question, and that movement is all that is needed to find coherence in the destruction. Painting allows for an appreciation and tangible evidence of these truths in the most basic form. That simplicity itself is comforting to say the least.
