Stephanie Gibart, LPC

visual artist & art therapist

I am a licensed professional counselor, art therapist, and local artist born and raised in Milwaukee Wisconsin. I am driven to help others find their hidden strengths, courage, and passions from my strong knowledge-base in the healing components of the creative process. Since completing my graduate counseling and art therapy program in 2012 from Mount Mary University the focus of my work has been implementing art, mindfulness, and other experiential therapeutic interventions for children, adolescents, and families impacted by trauma. I have not only seen the success of these approaches first hand, but I have also developed research aligning neurologically based trauma research with creative art and experiential therapy approaches.

I work in private practice at Elle Studio and Wellness, a holistic treatment facility located in Milwaukee's Third Ward.  My practice incorporates studio art therapy, counseling, and traditional psychotherapy techniques after a thorough assessment of an individual’s needs, beliefs, and communication styles. Art therapy sessions are designed to meet the client’s identified goals and objectives through guided self-expression experiences.  My creative

approach to therapy helps clients work through cognitive and emotional struggles from a new perspective, re-invigorating their engagement in self-discovery.

I strongly believe that being in-tune with art making allows for a deep appreciation for the essential truths in life: mistakes and missteps are
foundations for the future that must be appreciated, stagnancy is a choice, and we hold the power to transform any situation or perspective into something new. It is choosing this perspective that allows us to actively find beauty in the darkest and most stressful places in order to build hope and resiliency for the future.  I am a former Artist-in Residence
of Redline Milwaukee and have held studio space at Var Gallery.
